About This Unit
The 14th and 15th Light Horse were formed from the Australian Camel Corps in June 1918. When in Palestine, camels were found to be less effective in the rocky ground rather than the sandy terrain of Egypt and the Canal Zone. The troops were re-mounted with horses to form the 14th and 15th Light Horse Regiments which together with a regiment of French Colonial (Levant) cavalry, formed the 5th Light Horse Brigade..
