About This Unit
4MD / SA & NT Area Lines of Communication
Part of a State / Reginal network, Line of Communication units were established during WW2, co-located with Military District Headquarters. Each operated a Headquarters and subordinate elements in the Line of Communications structure providing administrative control of personnel, equipment, stores and consumables being procured stored and moved throughout their jurisdiction. While headquartered in the Military District Headquarters, they utilised outying depots throughout the District often based around pre-war Militia drill halls and the like.
Queensland (1MD / QLD LOC),
New South Wales (2MD / NSW LOC),
Victoria (3MD / VIC LOC),
Tasmania (6MD / Tas LOC) and
South Australia (4MD / SA LOC) which was also responsible for the NT excluding Darwin, and Broken Hill in Western NSW.
