QLD WW2 Nominal Roll Imported 10 Jun 2015 at 15:45

The QLD WW2 (Army) nominal roll has been imported into the VWM. This was made possible by the work of Lieutenant William ( Bill) Abernathy Park CBE AM, who spent 12 years comparing names on DVA files with other historical documents and correcting errors; adding missing information and most importantly identifying the names of those who were missing from the official record. Dedication to remembrance of the service and sacrifice of fellow Queenslanders fuelled his persistance and resulted in the creation of a list of 162,580 names. From this data we have updated the information on 4,584 existing records, and inserted another 121,174 names. 34,901 of these names are duplicated in the original file as individuals transferred to different services resulting in them having multiple service numbers.

The RSL-SA is honoured that Bill was willing to entrust his data to the Virtual War Memorial. His contribution cannot be underestimated. You can view Bill's profile Here.

The full World War 1 embarkation roll has been added to our database. Our thanks to the Australian War Memorial for providing this data so that we can verify our memorial names against this record, and also to allow the public to find a service man or woman's record and to honour them by adding additional detail, stories, and photos.

In addition, this release allows a registered user to update a person's information. This is done through a moderation process, where every request for the update goes through a checking process before the changes can be published. Because of limited resources, this process may take 1 to 2 weeks.
