First used in the Battle of the Somme, the creeping barrage became an invaluable tactic to overcome the problems inherent in trench warfare. The infantry soldier's perspective of this tactic was eloquently captured by Siegfried Sassoon in his poem "Attack", recited here by Gemma Arterton.
