Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Cyril was the eldest of six children of Andrew (Sam) Samuel Dyson (b1893 in Perth, WA) and Mabel (Mary) Ursula Gould (b1896 in Berkshire, England). Sam (a Soldier) and Mary (a Lady's Maid) married in London in 1916, when Sam was serving with the AIF (Private; Service No:26). Mary and their first child, Cyril (born in Surrey in 1917) arrived in Melbourne, Victoria in October 1918 on board the Patria. The family settled in Perth WA where Sam was a Warehouseman/Packer and Salesman.

Cyril married Mildred May Cherry (b1916 in Kent, England) in 1937 in Perth WA - Mildred arrived in Albany WA in 1925 on board the Sophocles. The couple divorced soon after their marriage and Cyril served with the RAN as a Fireman (18 January 1939 - August 1941). Cyril transferred to the RAN in August 1941, and served as a Stoker (Service No: 24953). He married Hazel Esther Charlton (b1922 in St Leonard's NSW) in 1943 in Sydney NSW - Hazel was working as a Shop Assistant. Cyril was listed in the QLD and South Australian Police Gazettes on several occasions as a Deserter from HM Broom Defence Depot. He was a Stoker attached to HMAS Penguin when he was Discharged in February 1946. Brothers Douglas and Gerald also served in WWII, and youngest brother Stanley served with the RAN from February 1950 to June 1969.

Following his Discharge, Cyril and Hazel divorced and Hazel remarried. Cyril moved around Australia using a number of aliases before settling in Geraldton WA where he died in 1999. Hazel died in 2007.
