3 May 1915: Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 812, 14th Infantry Battalion, ANZAC / Gallipoli, George was wounded during an attack up the sides of Steele’s Post. A bullet entered his head and passed through the neck into the spine. Classified as severe, he was shipped off to No.17 General Hospital, Alexandria per hospital ship “Dongala”.
15 Jul 1915: Embarked AIF WW1, Private, 812, 14th Infantry Battalion, George embarked Alexandria for return to Australia per Hospital Ship Ballarat arriving in Melbourne 3 August, 1915.
23 Mar 1916: Discharged AIF WW1, Private, 812, 14th Infantry Battalion, Following discharge, George took up duties in the Base Office, recruiting for the Malvern district.

Son of John and Esther BOTTOMLEY of Salisbury Street, Caulfield, Vic.

Sergeant Bottomley was wounded at Steele's Post, May 13, 1915, during an attack up the sides of this difficult position.  The bullet entered his head, and passed through the neck into the spine, where it remained.  Being permanently incapacitated in the use of the left arm, Sgt. Bottomley was discharged medically unit Mary 23, 1916 and engaged upon recruiting duties in Henty Electorate with considerable success.

Death From Injuries
George Edward Bottomley, aged 66 years, of Allison road,  Elsternwick, who was admitted to the Alfred Hospital late on Tuesday night after he had been knocked down by a bicycle in Glendra road, Caulfield, died early yesterday morning from his injuries. He suffered a fracture of the base of the skull.
