Leading Seaman Norman Henry Carey (Service No:23597) served in the RAN from 20 September 1939 to 16 September 1952. Brother Les (Private; Service No:TX8070) served in the AIF in WWII.
Norman was born in Staverton, Tasmania in 1922, third of five children of William Arthur Carey (b1892 in Nook, Tasmania) and Ivy Regina Hall (b1898 in Deloraine, Tasmania). William (a Labourer) and Ivy married in 1916 in Sheffield, where they settled and raised their family and William was a Labourer. William and Ivy later lived in Staverton and Christmas Hills, where William worked as a Labourer.
Norman was a Farm Labourer at Ridgley via Burnie, Tasmania in 1939 when he enlisted in the RAN. He was based in Sydney in 1943 when he married Thelma May Harris (b1923 in Macksville, NSW) - Thelma was a Textile Worker in Sydney. Norman and Thelma settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and, following his Discharge from the Navy in 1952, Norman was a Transport Driver. Thelma died in 1975 and Norman in 1993.
