Kahle was discharged from the AIF On the 19-9/19. Kahle did not have a good post war life, he struggled with PTSD, Depression and Respiratory issues which was reported to be from Villers Bretonneux. On the 23 of February 1922 Kahle committed suicide by hanging, it was reported by his girlfriend that he felt happy and joyful coming back from the war, but as the years went on he got severe Depression, he showed signs of being wrong in the head weeks before his death, it is said there was a letter in his pocket addressed to his girlfriend that states the following “ I would be better dead” John Kahle is buried at Burwood Cemetery in Whitehorse Victoria, and is remembered in the Ballarat avenue of honor and has a tree planted in his name.- written by William Valarezo using extracts from Trove
