About This Unit
The 58th was the second of four Battalions of the 15th Brigade all drawn largely from Victoria. They were created as part of the "doubling of the AIF" in Egypt after the withdrawal from Gallipoli. They were to become part of the 5th Division, raised in Egypt for the Western Front. The 58th was the 'pup' Battalion of the 6th Battalion. Its colour patch comprised a vertically aligned rectangle signifying the 5th Division. The red bar on the right signified the 15th Brigade and the purple bar on the left the second of the four battalions in the brigade.
