Elected as Councillor for Victoria Ward Huon Municipality 24 April 1948
A member of the 40th Battalion in the First World War, Mr. Upohurch was mentioned in despatches and was wounded during the Somme campaign. He took an active interest in the Huon sub-branch of the Returned Servicemen's League for 33 years and represented the sub-branch at annual conferences.
Mr. Upchurch was a member of the executive committee of the Huon division of the Australian Comforts Fund. He was a member also of the Huonville Bowling Club.
