"MAJOR F. L. HENLEY. D.S.O.
Major Frank LeLeu Henley, of Largs, who has been awarded the D.S.O., is the eldest son of Mr. J. R. Henley, of Semaphore-road, Exeter. He has been on active service since August, 1914, and was on Gallipoli from the landing until the evacuation. He ie attached to the Army Service Corps, and has twice been mentioned in dispatches for gallant and distinguished services. He was educated at Lefevre's Peninsula and Pulteney-street schools, and prior to the outbreak of war was O.C. to the 31st Army Service Corps. A younger brother (Private Harry H. "OBITUARY COL. F. L. HENLEY
Col. Frank LeLeu Henley, D.S.O., O.B.E., V.D., deputy director of Supply and Transport, Southern Command, died yesterday morning at Heidelberg Military Hospital after a brief illness. Born at Dandenong. Col. Henley was associated with the motor trade for many years. When the last war broke out Col. Henley enlisted as a lieut. in the A.I.F., and was attached to 1st Division Transport. He was later promoted to lieut.-col., in command of 3rd Division Transport. Col. Henley took part in the Gallipoli campaign and was senior officer of the 1st Division. He was at the evacuation and subsequently went to France in command of 3rd Division Transport. On returning to Australia Col. Henley lived in Adelaide for several years, and then came to Melbourne to join the A.A.S.C. 4th Division. He retained this position until the outbreak of war, when he went to Hobart as assistant director, Supply and Transport, 6th Division. His conspicuous ability led to his recall to Melbourne as A.D.S.T., Southern Command. Later he was appointed D.D.S.T., with the rank of col., which he retained until his death. He is survived by a widow, son, and daughter. The funeral with military honours, will leave Sleight's Chapel St Kilda rd., for the Fawkner Cemetery today at 2.30pm." - from the Melbourne Argus 26 Dec 1941 (nla.gov.au)
