Son of Elizabeth Jane Hockey of Sheen Hall Street, Walthamstow, Essex, England

Had previously served for two years with the Essex Regiment's 7th Battalion

On 27 August 1920 he wrote that he wished to be discharged in England as all his friends were there but had intentions of returning to Australia the following  month. He had previously admitted that he had deserted in October 1917
