Neil was the youngest of two children of Percival (Percy) Cedric Lord (b1885 in Terang, Victoria) and Hilda Lillian Reed (b1889 in Melbourne, Victoria). Percy (a Labourer) and Hilda married in 1913 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled. Following Percy's death in 1922 Hilda moved to Sydney with her sons.
Neil was a Clerk in Sydney when he enlisted in the Australian Army in June 1940. He served as a Driver (Service Nos:NX25906/N72908) with 2/6 Supply Depot and was attached to District Accounts Office NSW when he was Discharged in July 1945. Brother Harry (Corporal; Service No:347208) served in the ACMF.
In 1944 Neil married Iris Joy Luscombe (b1918 in Sydney, NSW). Following Neil's Discharge, the couple settled in Sydney where Neil worked as a Clerk. He died in 1999 and Iris in 2005.
