Mr Campbell’s name has been inscribed on the Carrington Memorial Gates.

George had been resting in an unmarked grave, now long forgotten, so Anzac Day 2016 I placed a cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite, taken a photo of the grave and uploaded the photo onto the Northern Cemetery website as a permanent record of his service.

Good news! A Boer War and Original Anzac from The Great War, resting in an unmarked grave for over 84 years at Sandgate Cemetery, has FINALLY been given his Honour and Dignity.

On the 13th July 1939, Private George Rennie Campbell, 4th Battalion (Reg No-936), farrier and blacksmith from Hargrave Street, Carrington, New South Wales, was laid to rest with full military honours at Sandgate Cemetery, age 59. ANGLICAN 2-145. 36. Not married.

George had been resting in an unmarked grave, now long forgotten, so Anzac Day 2016 I placed a cross adorned with poppies on the gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Gary Mitchell submitted an application to DVA September 2020 asking for a Commonwealth War Graves Plaque, curbing and marble chip, and this was accepted September 2020.
