Henry 'Harry' Starr was one of at least six children born to Thomas Robert and Mary Ann Starr. His enlistment record suggests he was born in Hay, NSW, but NSW BDM records suggest it is more likely he was born in Young, NSW. He had an older sister Charlotte who was born in Hay and died at age 33, in 1916 just before Henry left for the war. Henry had twin younger sisters, Elsie and Mabel born in 1891 in Cowra. Sadly, Elsie was murdered in Sydney in 1909 at age 18, where her parents had taken her for medical treatment. A younger brother, Ernest, a miner also died in 1910, also at age 18. When Henry died as a result of his war wounds in 1917, he was the 4th child his parents had lost early and tragically. His brother Edward tried to enlist in 1918, was was knocked back for poor vision.
