One of six siblings who served in WWII, Private Sheila Mary Dwyer (Service No:VF346908) served in the AWAS (graded Cook, regraded Clerk) with GHQ from 19 May 1942 to 19 May 1943 (Medically Unfit for Further Service).

Sheila was born in Wangaratta, Victoria in 1918, ninth of ten children of Thomas Dwyer (b1874 at King Parrot Creek via Flowerdale, Victoria) and Flora Gillies McLean (b1883 at Riddells Creek in the Macedon Ranges, Victoria). Thomas and Flora married in Melbourne in 1901, and lived in Yea, Violet Town, Strath Creek, Glenrowan, Benalla and Wangaratta. Thomas was a Farmer, General Commission Agent, Wheat Buyer and Saw Mill Owner. He was Captain of the Glenrowan Rifle Club, member of the Glenrowan Cricket Team, and served with 10th Light Horse Regiment.

Sheila has completed Nurses' Registration and was engaged in Home Duties in Wangaratta in 1942 when she enlisted in the Army. Following her Discharge, in 1943 in Benalla Sheila married Michael John Clynes (b1913 at Noorat in Corangamite Shire, Victoria) - Michael,a Widower and a Police Constable, had served in the Militia in 1936/1937 as a Private (Service No:326170) with 22nd Battalion. Sheila and Michael lived in Benalla before settling in Melbourne in the mid 1940s - Michael was a Police Constable and, following retirement in the 1970s worked as a Driver. Sheila died in 1985 and Michael in 2005.
