HERBERT LEYSHORN FRANKLIN who was killed in action on 19th July 1916 was the son of the late Mr. H. W. Franklin. He was born in 1892 and was at the School in 1908-1909. On leaving School he entered the office of W. D. & H. O. Wills and left there to enlist on 19th July 1915, exactly a year before he was killed. He sailed for Egypt in November 1915 and after training there went on to France about the middle of June 1916. He belonged to the 60th Battalion.
He, with his brother Charles, went into the Fleurbaix battle with his battalion and was one of the very many casualties in that battle. At first he was reported missing, but later accounts showed that he was killed by the same shell that killed his brother.
