97 years ago today, on the Tuesday afternoon of the 7th December 1926, Private John Robson, referred to as Jack and Kelso, 33rd Battalion (Reg No-3123), ironworker's assistant (J. Russel & Co., Engineering, Newcastle, N.S.W.), from 15 Reid Street, Newcastle, New South Wales and 7 Marine View, Newcastle, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 55. PRESBYTERIAN-6NW. 36.

Born at Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom about 1871 to Matthew and Mary A Robson; husband of Bertha Robson nee? (married?, died 25.6.1949, Newcastle, N.S.W., sleeping here, name not inscribed on headstone plaque), Jack enlisted on the 20th November 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A68 Anchises on the 24th January 1917.

Commenced return to Australia 26.9.1917.

Jack arrived home invalided on the 21st November 1917, being discharged medically unfit (senility) on the 1st January 1918.

Not entitled to Victory Medal.

Mr. Robson’s name has been inscribed on The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name possibly inscribed on the Pride of Adamstown Lodge, Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows Roll of Honour.

I have placed poppies at Jack’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
