Trooper (Tpr) 343 Alexander Watt Andrew Barber, farmer, of Laen (near Donald), Victoria enlisted in the 8th Light Horse Regiment on 17 September 1914 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Star of Victoria on 24 February 1915 for Gallipoli.

Tpr Barber died at Anzac Cove on 22 June 1915 of multiple bomb wounds received in action at walker's Ridge, Gallipoli on the same date, having only arrived on Gallipoli c.22 May 1915. He was aged 23 years.
