a little history
Walter Henry Cook, or Harry, was born in Mount Barker SA on 10 September 1898. He was the ninth child and 4th son of Arthur and Tabitha Cook of Mt Barker.
Harry had two brothers who also enlisted - Arthur Lionel Cook and Lance Edward Cook.
Stories are hard to come by, as all our older generations have died, but he was an uncle of my father, who always held Harry in high esteem. My father served in WW11.
After Harry's service, he met and married Ethel, a very short, determined and kind-hearted Scot. They lived in Mount Gambier for much of their married life.
Harry died on 16/10/1980 and is buried in Carinya Gardens Cemetery in Mount Gambier. His wife Ethel died 29/10/1988 aged 91. Lyn Fisher
