Driver Frederick James Drew Roberts (Service No:3921) enlisted in the AIF on 12 February 1918 and was a Private attached to 48th Infantry Battalion when he embarked with his Unit on 22 March 1918 from Sydney for London on board HMAT A54 Runic. On Disembarkation, Private Roberts was hospitalised with Influenza, before rejoining his Unit and serving in France as a Driver. Driver Roberts was hospitalised on two further occasions - with Influenza and Measles - and embarked from England for Adelaide on 1 July 1919 on board HT Frankfurt. Driver Roberts was attached to 48th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 24 September 1919.

Fred was born in Malalla, South Australia in 1897, eighth of fourteen children of Joseph Henry Roberts (b1858 in Clarendon, South Australia) and Grace Burlington Wood (b1866 in Clifton via Burnside, South Australia). Joseph (a Blacksmith) and Grace married in 1888 in Shannon, and lived in Long Plain, Malalla, Shannon, Stockport via Hamley Bridge, Riverton, Nantawarra and Port Wakefield where they raised their family and Joseph was a Blacksmith.

 Fred was working as a Labourer at Riverton in 1918 when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge, Fred worked as a Labourer, and in 1926 in Adelaide, married Gertrude Maude Adelaine Lines (b1895 in Bute, South Australia). Fred and Gertrude lived in Morphett Vale and Adelaide, where they raised their family and Fred worked as a Labourer. Fred died in 1962 and Gertrude in 1963.
