Michael Thomas was born in 1896 in Brunswick, Victoria, Australia. To Daniel and Elizabeth Manning. He enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force on the 19 February 1915 & was placed into the 14th Infantry Battalion 3rd reinforcements. Michael fought over sea until his returne in 1918 where he obtained the rank of Sergeant.

Michael married Ethel Anne Ironside on Jul 1916 in Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdomand they had one daughter together. At some point their marriage decided and they divorced.
He then married Verna Woolcock 27 Jun 1927 Victoria, Australia and they had five children together. He died on 4 October 1956 in Fitzroy Victoria Australia at the age of 60, and was buried in Carlton,Victoria, Australia.
