We Remember Today the life and service of 6550 Private Walter Risk, 14th Machine Gun Company from Smeaton, Victoria.

A 21 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 26 August 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 21st Reinforcements of the 6th Battalion from Melbourne on 2 October 1916 aboard HMAT Nestor.

While serving on the Western Front with the 6th Battalion, he was wounded in action on 25 October 1917 but recovered and continued to serve. He transferred to the 5th Machine Gun Battalion on 22 June 1918 and arrived back in Australia on 22 September 1919.
