1st Australian Light Horse

formerly  Australian Army Service Corps

He was 31 and the son of James and Jessie Young.

He is one of 13 Australian casualties of the Great War commemorated on the Grantown-on-Spey War Memorial.

Grantown-on-Spey (Scottish Gaelic: Baile nan Granndach) is a town in the Highland Council Area, historically within the county of Moray. It was founded in 1765 as a planned settlement on a low plateau at Freuchie beside the river Spey at the northern edge of the Cairngorm mountains, about 20 miles  south-east of Inverness.

His brother fell whilst serving with British forces; he was Private W J Young, aged 19, 1st Bn. Cameron Highlanders- Service No: 2488 - Date of Death: 23/07/1916- CATERPILLAR VALLEY CEMETERY, LONGUEVAL 

The brothers are remembered on the Carrbridge War Memorial, their native village in the Scottish Highlands. W J Young is remembered as simply John Young.

They are also remembered on the family grave in Carrbridge Cemetery.

Carrbridge (Scots: Carrbrig, Scottish Gaelic: Drochaid Chàrr) is a village in Badenoch and Strathspey in the Scottish Highlands. It lies off the A9 road on the A938 road, west of Skye of Curr, southeast of Tomatin, near Bogroy.

"Mr. A. N. Ezzy, of Moree, has received word that Pte. A. Young, who was well known in the town, had been killed in action. Before going to the war Pte. Young was a partner in the fruit and confectionery business carried on by McDonald and Young." - from the Tamworth Daily Observer 07 Aug 1918 (nla.gov.au)
