"KILLED IN ACTION

News was received on Tuesday that Private George Joseph Doak was killed in action in France on the 23rd of July. Private Doak enlisted about twelve months ago. He was a single man and was nearly twenty four years of age. Previous to joining the expeditiotary forces he worked at the copper works of the Mount Morgan Gold mining Company. He was a son of Mrs. J. Doak, of Cemetery-road. At the meeting of the Town Council on Tuesday night it was decided to send a letter of sympathy on behalf of the townspeople to the deseased's relatives." - from the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin 01 Sep 1916 (nla.gov.au)
