Thomas Hampton Elliot was born on May 10th 1889 in Yanyarrie South Australia. His Parents were Robert and Frances Elliot. Thomas attended South Melbourne College, Melbourne, Victoria. Before enlisting Thomas was a traveler, he had no previous military experience.

Thomas enlisted 16 June 1915 in Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant, he was enlisted into the 16th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement. Thomas’s AWM Embarkation Roll number was 23/33/3. Taken on strength, 48th Battalion, 27th April 1916.Thomas was promoted to Lieutenant 6 August 1916. Thomas was wounded in action on the 7th August 1916 but remained at duty. Thomas was promoted to Captain on the 6th November 1916. Thomas proceeded overseas to France, 10 August 1917. Thomas joined the 48th Battalion, in the field, 15 August 1917.

At the age of 28 on the 28th of March 1918, Thomas was killed in action in Albert, France. Thomas was buried Ribemont Communal Cemetery Extension (Plot III, Row J, Grave No. 7), in France. Thomas’s Panel number, Roll of Honour in the Australian War Memorial is 145. Thomas received two medals while serving, British War Medal, Victory Medal.
