WALFORD, James Wilmot 
(also known as James Willmot Walford)

Born in Swansea Tasmania in 1884, the son of Susan (nee Rennie) and John Walford. The 30 year old hospital attendant enlisted into the 12th Battalion on the 24 August 1914. He was sent overseas to the Middle East, where at Gallipoli he was shot in the leg on the 24 July 1915. Following this, he was transferred to England as medically unfit, before being sent home to Australia for discharge in March of 1916.

During WWII, he pushed his age down 10 years and enlisted again. In this time, he served in various defence units and positions around Tasmania.

He died on the 6 February 1957 at Burnley, Victoria, aged 73 years. He was cremated at Springvale Botanical Cemetery, and his ashes placed in Boronia, Wall C, Niche 189. It is unknown if he married or had children.
