Served a three year appreneticeship with T. Higginbottham of Meblourne, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 21 Jnne 1919 aboard HS Konigin Luise as nusing staff disembarking on 2 August 1919 at Fremantle, WA

During 1921c Lionel married Myrtle Janet Munsie in Perth, WA.
