Son of John Daniel O'Brien and Elizabeth Ann O'Brien nee Clarkson of William Street, Abbotsford, Victoria.
Prior to enlisting William had been a member of the Collingwood Rifle Club.
Husband of Alice May Annie O'Brien nee Dixon of Christmas and Willmont Street, Northcote, Victoria. William and Alice married during 1926c in Victoria
