He was 32 and the son of Julian Arthur and Elizabeth Ashton; husband of Mary A. Ashton, of  The Hospital, Tiverton, Devon, England.

Address Glen View, Denham Street, Bondi, Sydney, New South Wales

He was hospitalized a number of times and it is likely that his wife, Mary Lane was a nurse. He married her only a few months before embarking for France where he was killed in action.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 5 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 12 June 1916.

Admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance, 21 July 1916 (debility); transferred to England, 27 July 1916; admitted to Military Hospital, Chatham, 28 July 1916; discharged to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 12 October 1916.
