William Henry Voss was born in 1892 in Albury, New South Wales. He was the third born child and first born son of Ferdinand Voss and Matilda Hoare. He had 2 brothers and 4 sisters: May S Voss, Theresa Wilhelmina Voss, Rose Ellen Voss, James Martin Voss, Ferdinand Charles Voss and Grace Matilda Voss. He was of Roman Catholic faith. He was a farmer in Burrumbuttock, New South Wales.
William was 22 when he enlisted for World War One as a private on the 26th of January 1915. He was in the 21st Battalion, B Company which embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on the 10th of May 1915. He fought in Egypt, Gallipoli and the Western Front. He returned to Australia on the 15th of April 1918. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
He had a wife called Myrtle, two daughters called Dorothy and Enid and a son called William.
He died at the age of 63 on the 8th of April 1956.
