Son of William Henry Upton and Ada Jane Upton of Windsor, NSW.

Husband of Elsie Maud Upton nee Kelly of Bulli, NSW. Harold and Elsie married during 1912c in Woonona, NSW.

17 July 1916 - enlisted at Kiama, NSW with the 30th Battalion and the with the rank of Private.

Commenced return to Australia on 10 June 1919 aboard HT Lyttleton disembarking on 5 August 1919       at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney.

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

20 September 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District.
