Son of Mrs Helena Baker Chaffers-Welsh, Nullamana, Inverell, New South Wales
One for Nullamanna.
A fine big strapping bushman, one who can ride, shoot and march all day, presented himself to the local recruiting officers during the week for active service. His name was John Theodore Chaffers-Welsh and he hailed from Nullamanna. Welsh said his main idea in volunteering was to have Nullamanna represented at the front. Nobody in that district had offered their services in the defence of the Empire so he took the job on himself. — but what about the others! — This gallant young fellow is a son of a Church of England clergyman — the Rev. J. Chaffers-Welsh.
