Son of Andrew Wilson Veitch and Margaret Veitch nee McHenry of Ascot Street, Ballarat, Victoria.

Brother of John Tennant Veitch who returned to Australia on 8 June 1919 having served with the 1st Tunnelling Corps; Hugh Ramsay Veitch who returned to Australia on 11 February 1919 having served with the 3rd Pioneer Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 12 May 1919 aboard HT Gaika but did not re-embark at Wellington. Continued travel aboard HT Ruahine disembarking on 5 July 1919 at Sydney for onward travel to Melbourne.

During 1920c Andrew married Elizabeth Ethel Quayle in Victoria
