Captain Henry Frances George Abbott (Service Nos:V50455/VX114224) initially enlisted in the ACMF as a Lieutenant with Heavy Artillery 6th Heavy Brigade RAA on 3 July 1940, and was posted to Darwin NT on 10 July 1941. Lieutenant Abbott was 'in the field' in Darwin on 13 August 1942 when he transferred to the AIF (Darwin Coast Artillery). Returning from Darwin on 17 April 1943, he was promoted to Captain on 13 May 1943, and served with Coast Artillery in Newcastle and Port Phillip. Captain Abbott was attached to Darwin Coast Artillery RAA at Termination of Appointment on 18 October 1945.
Henry was born in Newport, Melbourne Ports, Victoria in 1913, third of six children (and only son) of Frederick Arthur Abbott (b1867 in Dapto, New South Wales) and Elizabeth Dale (b1881 in Brighton, Victoria). Frederick was a Clerk in 1899 when he and Elizabeth married in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family. Frederick worked as a Clerk and Insurance Agent, and served as a Member of the Jam Trade Board.
Henry worked as a Salesman in Newport, and in 1939 in Melbourne married Rose Lillian Preacher (b1914 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Rose was working as a Typist in Melbourne. Henry and Rose settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family - Henry worked as a Salesman and Accountant, and Rose worked as a Telephonist. Henry died in 1973 and Rose in 2010.
