Biography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon

There are two Girvan War Memorials-the photographs show the one at Girvan North End Parish Church which stands outside Girvan Church of Scotland North Parish Church and was erected in 1920 to the parishioners who fell in the Great War. It is in the form of the Cross of Sacrifice the names being inscribed around the base.

He appears to have had a middle name; he is shown on the Girvan War Memorial as Peter C. Orr - confimred by record on teh Roll of Honour, Australian War Memorial. He was 22 and served with the 3rd Bn. Australian Infantry, A.I.F.  He enlisted at Underbool, Victoria, Australia.

He was the son of John and Mary Clowes Orr.

The inscription on his wargrave chosen by Next of Kin reads:

WE LOVED HIM IN LIFE HE IS DEAR TO US STILL BUT IN GRIEF WE MUST BEND TO GOD'S HOLY WILL
