Son of Patrick Stephen Flaherty and Elsie Beatrice Flaherty of Dubbo Street, Warren, NSW. Elsie later remarried and was known as Elise de Carle
Brother of William Flaherty who was killed in action on 9 August 1918 while serving with the 3rd Battalion. William was buried in the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, Plot X1X, Row F, Grave 2
