Major Llewellyn Sheargold Humphrey (Service No:WX3466) initially served with the Militia (Captain; Service No:W244287) from 24 February 1938 to 8 December 1939 and was attached to Royal Australian Artillery (Field Artillery). On 17 July 1940 Captain Humphrey enlisted in the Army and was attached to 2nd/3rd Field Regiment when he embarked from Fremantle for Greece on 17 February 1941 on board HMT Aquitania. Captain Humphrey served in Libya and embarked from Suez for the RTA on 17 March 1942 on board the Durban Castle. He continued to serve with 2nd/3rd Field Regiment and progressed to Major. In 1945/1946 he was Camp Commander at the Hay Internment Camp in NSW and was Discharged on 4 April 1946.
Born in 1909 in Pingelly WA, Llewellyn was the second of five children of Llewellyn Benjamin John Humphrey (b1887 in Tasmania) and Eleanor Margaret Sheargold (b1882 in Westbury, Tasmania). Llewellyn Snr (a Teacher) and Eleanor married in 1905 in Tasmania and by 1906 the couple were living in Pingelly WA where Llewellyn was a Teacher. Llewellyn and Margaret moved around WA, living at Narrogin, Pingelly, Kalgoorlie, Wagerup, Perth and Darlington where Llewellyn was a Teaher and Principal. They retired to Melbourne, Victoria in 1949.
Llewellyn worked as a Bank Clerk in Kalgoorlie and was in Perth in 1933 when he married first wife Clarice Mary Curley (b1911 in Armadale, WA). The couple lived in Midland Junction and Perth where Llewellyn was a Bank Official and Divorced in 1947. Llewellyn relocated to Melbourne, Victoria and worked as a Builder. In 1948 he remarried to Carmel McGregor (b1918 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Carmel was working as a Clerk. Llewellyn and Carmel settled in Melbourne where Llewellyn worked as a Builder and Carmel as a Trained Nurse. Llewelly died in 1982 and Carmel in 1997.
