BIOGRAPHY:

Rudolph Victor (Rudy), Jahn Service Number - 5734. Rudy was born in Norwood, South Australia, on 21 January 1888. He joined the army at the age of 28 and passed away at the age of 75 in Terang, Victoria. He went to Northam State School and worked as a grocer before he enlisted in the army.

He had in total 10 siblings: Claude Henry Jahn, Henry Arthur Jahn, Olive Dorothy Alford (Jahn) Smart, Kathleen Regina Mary Conrad (Jahn) Sinclair, Conrad Albert Alford Jahn, Robert Edwin Jahn, William George Jahn, Frank Hubert Jahn, Adolph Walter Jahn and Isla Isabel May (Jahn) Chapman. His parents are Conrad Ludwig Johann August Jahn and Mary Ann Alford.

He also had a brother that joined the army and went to war, Conrad Albert (Alford) Jahn, who embarked from Fremantle aboard HMAT Ajana (A31) on 22 December 1915, served on the Western Front later with the 4th Pioneer Battalion and died in action in France in 5th of August 1916. Rudy joined the army 6 months before his brother died at war. 

He enlisted on 20 March 1916 at Perth, Western Australia. Following his enlistment, he got sick and went to Northam Memorial Hospital. His name is listed on this hospital memorials as well. His Unit eventually embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia, on board HMAT A48 Seang Bee on 18 July 1916.

After serving in France, Rudy returned to Australia on 16 January 1919, and died at the age of 75.

 

Description of Rudolph Victor (Rudy) Jahn on enlistment: He was 28 years and 1 month old, 5 feet 4 inches, 33.36 inches for chest measurement, had brown eyes and black hair.

Rudolph married Esther Millicent MICKLE in Northam, Western Australia on 21st January,  1921

His brother Conrad Albert Alford JAHN (SN 3928) also served during WW1 & was Killed in Action at Pozieres, France on 5th August, 1916
