Sergeant Mervyn Edmond Gwynne (Service No:29965) initially served in the ACMF from 1938 as a Private attached to 11th Battalion VDC, and was released to enlist in the RAAF on 20 February 1941 at No 4 Recruiting Centre Perth as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee Wireless Operator, re mustered as Wireless Operator Mechanic. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman in February 1942, LAC Gwynne served with HQNA Townsville and in Port Moresby, Fall River and Horn Island with 75 Squadron. Sergeant Gwynne was attached to Air Defence HQ Perth at Discharge on 9 October 1945 (Occupational Discharge).

Mervyn was born in Tambellup, Western Australia in 1921, fourth of five children of Charles Edmond Gwynne (b1882 in Hammond via Eurelia, South Australia) and Hilda Maude Bradbury (b1895 in Katanning, Western Australia). Charles was Secretary of the Woodanilling Roads Board in 1915 when he and Hilda married in Woodanilling via Katanning. Following his Discharge from the AIF (Private; Service No:7329), Charles and Hilda settled in Tambellup, where they raised their family and Charles was a Farmer, and later Secretary of the Woodanilling Road Board.

Mervyn completed his studies at Albany State High School, and was employed as a Clerk - Junior Assistant Depot Superintendent with Vulcan Oil Vacuum Co Pty Ltd in Northam. In 1944 in Katanning, Mervyn married Cherie Kimble Wilson (b1922 in Sydney, New South Wales). Following his Discharge from the RAAF in 1945 - expedited to enable his employment as Investigation Officer with the Ministry of Post Was Reconstruction - Mervyn and Cherie lived in Ballidu, Mount Barker and Medina. Mervyn was employed as a Superintendent, Grader Operator, Plant Attendant, Shift Control Officer and Foreman. Mervyn and Cherie settled in Rockingham, then briefly in Darradup, where Mervyn was a Farmer. Cherie died in 2000 and Mervyn in 2009.
