Elijah Edward Hitchen
He was born in December 1894 in Fenton, Staffordshire, England
He emigrated to Fremantle, Western Australia in 1913 with a listed occupation of 'Coachman'
On the outbreak of the Great War, the now 21yo Hairdresser enlisted into the AIF at Blackboy Hill on 6 September 1915
He was assigned as a Trooper to the 12th Reinforcements of the 10th Light Horse Regiment & he departed Australia bound for Egypt on 22 November landing in Egypt in December, in time to still qualify for the 14-15 Star
He served with the 10th Light Horse for the remainder of the war returning to Australia for discharge on 16 December 1919
Sadly, following a failed drug overdose, he cut his own throat in a fit of depression on 27 September 1952 in Perth at the age of 57
His brother, a Royal Marine, Bertie Thomas Hitchin CH/18521 served in WW1 & was killed in action fighting the Bolsheviks at Murmansk, North Russia on 3 May 1919
