Leading Aircraftman Francis Reuben Piper (Service No:129317) enlisted in the RAAF as an Aircraftman I on 3 May 1943 at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne - mustered as Clerk. Promoted to LAC in 1944, he served with No 23 Squadron, No 9 Repair and Salavage Unit (RSU), and No 58 Operational Base Unit (OBU). LAC Piper was attached to HQ South Area at Discharge on 8 March 1946. Sibling Harry also served in WWII.

Frank was born in Gnarrwarre, Victoria in 1913, third of five children of Arthur Piper (b1881 in Geelong, Victoria) and Sarah Ann Browne (b1880 in Winchelsea, Victoria). Arthur (a Farmer) and Sarah married in 1908 in Geelong, Victoria where they settled and raised their family and Arthur was a Farmer and Grazier.

Frank was a Farmer at Ceres in Geelong in 1939 when he married Ila Jane Herd (b1917 in Geelong, Victoria). Frank and Ila settled in Geelong where they raised  their family and Frank worked as a Stock Agent (Dalgety & Co) and an Auctioneer. Frank died in 1965 and Ila in 1985.
