MONTAGUE LUDLOW WOODYATT, son of Mr. Walter Woodyatt and Mrs. Kathleen Woodyatt, was born at Gympie, Queensland, on 28th November, 1891. He was edu- cated at the Normal School, and at the Technical College, Brisbane. He entered the service of the Bank at Brisbane on 14th January, 1910, and on 20th June, 1911, was transferred to Fortitude Valley, as ledger-keeper; to Warwick on 4th June, 1912, in the same capacity; and to Gympie on 13th January, 1913.
Montague Woodyatt enlisted as a private on 19th August, 1914, and was in camp at Enoggera until his departure from Brisbane with the 9th Battalion on 24th September, 1914. He served in Egypt as lance-corporal until 24th April, 1915, and after being promoted to corporal fought on Gallipoli from 25 th April, 1915, to 28th November of that year. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant on that date and was on duty in Egypt until 10th May, 1916, after having been transferred to A.I.F. Headquarters in Egypt on 16th December, 1915. On 11th May, 1916, he was transferred to the Headquarters at London. In August, 1917, he joined the 18th Battalion in France, where he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and served until 10th February, 1919.
Lieutenant Montague Ludlow Woodyatt returned to Australia in November, 1919, and was discharged from the A.I.F. in the following month.
