Wilfred Keane was born at Willunga and was single when he enlisted at Morphetville. He stood 5'8" (173cm) tall, weighed 158lbs (72kg), and had a fresh complexion and fair hair.

Wilfred first embarked on 12 February 1915 and arrived at Galipoli on 16 May 1915 but developed a hernia and was returned to Australia for treatment. He re-embarked on 24 August 1916 with the 16th/(th Light Horse Reinforcements and from 21 March 1917 was a Driver with the 3rd Light Horse Machine Cun Squadron in France.

He returned home after serving for 4 years and 191 days. His four brothers Arthur, Joseph, Theodore and Frederick (KIA) also served. 

After the War Wilfred resided at Reynella.  He married Grace Evelyn Mary Henley in 1920 and died on 12 October 1940 aged 87 years.
