Leading Aircraftman Alfred John Simpson (Service No:150505) enlisted in the RAAF on 30 August 1943 as an Aircraftman I at No 3 Recruiting Centre Brisbane - mustered as Trainee Technical, re mustered as Wireless Assistant and then as Wireless Maintenance Mechanic. LAC Simpson was posted to No 2 Aircraft Depot and to No 8 Squadron on Goodenough Island, and was attached to Brisbane Telecommunications Unit at Discharge on 4 March 1946.

Eldest of five children (and only son), Alfred was born in Roma, QLD in 1913 to Albert John Simpson (b1879 in Surat, QLD) and Alice May Brophy (b1890 in Surat, QLD). Albert worked as an Agricultural Labourer/Settler in Surat, where he and Alice married in 1912. The couple settled in Surat, where they raised their family and Albert was Storekeeper and Grazier.

Alfred worked as a Station Hand on his father's property, and in 1939 was engaged to Ethel (Ettie) Grace McKenzie (b1914 in Roma, QLD) - Ettie was a Governess at Bull's Creek via Adavale. Ettie enlisted in the WAAAF in 1942 and Alfred enlisted in the RAAF in 1943. Alfred and Ettie married in Sydney in 1944, and following Discharge from the RAAF, returned to Surat, where Alfred worked as a Station Hand - Ettie settled in Mitchell, where she worked as a Bookkeeper before moving to Sandgate in the late 1960s. Alfred died in 1971 and Ettie in 2006.
