Sydney Williams was one of five brothers who enlisted in the AIF. He was the son of Charles William and Matilda Williams of Parkes, New South Wales. His mother had passed away when he was four years of age.
Sydney was 6 feet tall when he enlisted in 1916.
His brothers who served were, 6853 Pte. Robert Miers Williams 35th Battalion AIF, killed in action 6 April 1918, aged 19.

2030 L.Cpl. Walter Waldron Williams 18th Battalion AIF, RTA 12 May 1918. (shrapnel wound to back)
6849 L.Cpl. William Arthur Williams 18th Battalion AIF, RTA 5 March 1919. (twice wounded, discharged medically unfit)
Sydney joined the 45th Battalion at the front on 14 May 1917. Only three weeks later he was most severely wounded at Messines in Belgium on 7 June 1917. He was evacuated to England with a serious gunshot wound to the chest and left shoulder. He was returned to Australia due to his injuries on 31 January 1918.
