Stationmaster Killed At Pooraka
Shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday, Andrew Patrick Davoren, 50, stationmaster, of Pooraka, was found crushed between two sheep vans at the Pooraka station. Another railway employe saw Davoren jammed between the trucks, and it was not until an engine had shunted the trucks apart that the man was freed. He had been severely crushed in the chest and died shortly afterwards.
No one saw the accident although other men were working in the yard. His body was taken to the City Morgue in a Civil Ambulance.
Davoren leaves a widow and two children.
Constable A. W. Kurtz, of Gepps Cross, is preparing a report for the Coroner.

OBITUARY
Mr. Andrew Davoren, Pooraka.
THE death by accident at Pooraka on July 21 of Andrew Patrick Davoren has removed another sterling Catholic from our midst. The late Andy Davoren was the third son of Mr. and the late Mrs. P. Davoren, of Torrensville. He was born at Eudunda in 1892. He joined the S.A. Rail-ways on December 6, 1910, as a junior porter at Eudunda, soon rising to the clerical staff as goods clerk, in which capacity he served at Eudunda and Kapunda. He subsequently served as relieving stationmaster, with head-quarters at Murray Bridge. After service in the Mallee and South Eastern districts he went to Port Pirie as goods clerk. He was later appointed stationmaster and served at Alawoona, Cockburn, Kapunda, Naracoorte, and Pooraka.
In his younger days he was a keen footballer and runner, and won many country sheffields. He enlisted in the 1st A.I.F. on June 26, 1916, and served for two and a half years in France.
In February, 1926, he married Miss Margaret O'Reilly, at St. Ignatius' Church, Norwood.
In most of the districts in which he was stationed he was not fortunate enough to be in the vicinity of a Catholic Church, but his keen interest in Catholic affairs never diminished. When he was stationed at Naracoorte he and his wife were very active Church workers there.
The high esteem in which he was held was shown by the representative gathering of mourners at the grave side. The Rev. Fr. F. Gatzemeyer, P.P., Salisbury, conducted the service. Other Priests present were V. Rev. Fr. C. Thompson, Rev. Frs. C. B. Crowley, L. Roberts, E. L. O'Connell, and T. O'Rourke. The pallbearers were Messrs. A. N. Ambler, H. J. Rowe, J. Hanrahan, E. H. Perryman, W. Ganley and H. L. Summers. He leaves a widow and two sons, John and Dennis, to mourn their sad loss. Requiescat in pace.
