Served his tailor apprenticeship with E. Howes of Auder Street, Sydney, NSW
Commenced return to Australia on 24 July 1919 aboard HT Bakara. At Durban on 4 September 1919 Eugene was transferred to HT Bahia Castillo, for armed guard duties, disembarking on 21 October 1919
