There is not much known about John. He appears to have changed his name from David Henry Orbell to John David prior to enlisting.
Enlisted June 10 1916 at the age of 35 and half years according to his attestation paper.
Arrived in England with 43rd battalion on 20 Nov 1916
Embarked for France on 25 Nov 1916
Appointed Lance Corporal on 05 Feb 1917
Returned to Australia on 24 Oct 1917 (diagnosed with neurasthenia/nervous exhaustion)
