Died on this date - 13th September.....Private Horace Newby Jones was born at Paddington, NSW in 1892. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 10th April, 1915 as a 23 year old, single, Bricklayer from Bondi, NSW.

Private Horace Newby Jones embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 12th May, 1915 with the 18th Infantry Battalion, 1st Reinforcements.
Private Horace Newby Jones was wounded in action at Gallipoli Peninsula on 27th August, 1915. He was transferred to Base at Anzac on 28th August, 1915 with gunshot wounds to arm & fracture. Private Jones was invalided to England from Mudros on 29th August, 1915 on Hospital Ship Devanha & admitted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, Hampshire, England on 12th September, 1915.

Private Horace Newby Jones died at 3.10 am on 13th September, 1915 at Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, Hampshire, England from wounds received in action – guns shot wounds to right upper arm, with compound fracture of humerus. Right arm was amputated below the shoulder.

Private Horace Newby Jones was buried in Netley Military Cemetery, Hampshire, England (Private Headstone) where 49 other WW1 Australian War Graves are buried.
